Hello, my name is Ignatius (Iggy) Vaccaro and I am the officer in charge, or acting Postmaster of Rochester. I look forward to working with the customers of Rochester and the Greater Rochester PCC.
These are exciting and challenging times. As we all navigate through the twists and turns of the economy, we find success by gathering necessary tools and resources. That’s what the PCC is all about. It allows us to share information and participate in dialogues so we can make mail successful.
In the immediate future, we have two initiatives in the works that will have direct and indirect affect on you. The first is the roll out of Intelligent Mail; the technology platform for the next generation of mailing services, features and products. Mailers and the Postal Service gain end-to-end visibility into the mailstream through the use of the suite of Intelligent Mail barcodes (IMB). The data creates actionable information about mail for marketing, financial and operational environments. Though optional now, in May of 2011 IMB will be a requirement for automation qualification. I strongly encourage you to learn more about Intelligent Mail services by visiting our RIBBS website at ribs.usps.gov.
The second initiative is the introduction of new machinery. By the end of the year, we expect to have two Flat Sequencing Systems (FSS) in the Rochester Processing & Distribution Center. These machines will sequence flat mail (large envelopes, catalogs, and periodicals) in the sequence that the carrier delivers. Similar to delivery point sequencing (DPS) for letter mail, flat sequencing reduces carrier office time, reduces the number of carrier routes and improves delivery quality for flat mail. In the long run, it makes the Postal Service more efficient while keeping costs down.
It’s the beginning of a new year with many exciting meetings and events coming our way. I look forward to working with my PCC co-chair, the PCC board and you to promote and grow your business through the United States Postal Service.
